Vahlune 1.0.0 guide

Take a prepared voice
toward the voice you want.

A guide to the role of a Vocal Character Preamp and to shaping sound through comparison.

Installation environment

Windows 11 64-bit / VST3 64-bit. Tested in Studio One 7 Professional at 48 kHz, in mono and stereo. The distribution file is Vahlune-v1.0.0-Windows-VST3.zip. Follow the included documentation to install it. There is no online activation.

Basic workflow

  1. Prepare the material and input

First perform any necessary source repair and input standardization, then use Vahlune at the stage where you add character.

  2. Adjust using a representative vocal passage

Listen to the changes from DRIVE, BIAS, COLOR, and DENSITY, and check whether the Body/Edge character suits the song.

  3. Compare levels

Use OUTPUT and MATCH to compare without judging quality by volume differences alone. MATCH is relative compensation that follows slowly.

  4. Judge within the mix

Check the IN, CHARACTER, PROTECT, MATCH, OUT, and CLIP displays. Make the final decision by comparing with the original sound and listening in the mix.

Available controls and processing scope

DRIVE / BIAS / COLOR / DENSITY / OUTPUT / MATCH

Character is generated as a residual from nonlinear processing. The Body/Edge paths shape body and presence, along with clarity and edge. The character core uses 4x oversampling. DC control is applied only to the residual side.

Protection controls side effects of the generated character. It includes stabilization of the generated Edge, but is not a general-purpose de-esser or compressor that processes the original sound. MATCH is not target-loudness normalization.

The roles of the three products

Vahlune does not replace source repair. Decide on any necessary automation, compression, de-essing, or EQ according to the material and the song.
